Stock Market Outlook This Week: November 14th – November 18th

Penny stocks generally tend to move independently of daily stock market trends. Thanks to the 2022 stock market crash, however, it has been tough to ignore the historical economic events influencing all public companies. Whether we’re talking about cheap stocks to buy or blue-chip stocks reacting to the latest Fed comments, there’s plenty to make sure you’re paying attention to on a weekly basis.

Earlier this month, mixed messaging from the Federal Reserve and Fed Chair Jerome Powell helped spark a sell-off. But the recent round of October CPI inflation data has helped markets pull an about-face in November. Stocks surged at the end of the week last week. Albeit, some of the bullishness was muted due to rising concerns related to the FTX brokerage meltdown and potential blowback on leveraged accounts. Meanwhile, upcoming economic data this week, including Producer Price Index (PPI data), could move markets.

While PPI data is surely a focus for broad market participants, it isn’t the only thing to account for in the coming days. Retail sales data, multiple country GDP, and CPI data come out, and we’ll also see some attention placed on commodities like oil and natural gas. Some speculate that last week’s CPI inflation data confirmed the stock market bottom was in.

However, there is still another Fed meeting, interest rate hike, and November CPI data report coming in December that could bring some cautious optimism to the market. There are also more earnings results to digest that include 2022 and/or 2023 guidance that could play a role. Against that backdrop, there will be plenty of Fed and global central bank speakers throughout the week.
